Caneyville to enter franchise agreement with KU

The Caneyville City Commission recently approved an ordinance to enter into a franchise agreement with Kentucky Utilities and allow KU to furnish and sell electricity in the city.

During the regularly-scheduled Monday, December 9 Commission meeting, the second reading of the franchise agreement between Caneyville and Kentucky Utilities was held.

Following the approval of the second reading, the City will advertise that its electrical utilities are currently up for bid.

In other business:

*A motion was passed to apply for the Kentucky League of Cities Safety Grant for matching funds up to $3,000 for security lighting and installation for the waste water plant; replacing the sub floor in the old Caneyville School; and safety signs and stands for the Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department.

The City will also apply for a workers’ compensation grant to match funds for new work boots for city employees.

*A motion was passed to give city employees an end-of-the-year salary bonus of $350.

*A motion was passed to give $100 to each CVFD member for expenses for the year.

*The Commission discussed the need for setting goals to renovate the old Caneyville School.

Commissioner Mike Geary displayed flooring samples for the old school during the meeting and said he would find price quotes for them before the January Commission meeting.

*Mayor James Embry reported that the walls for the new Caneyville ball park concession stands are up.
