The Grayson County Detention Center received approval for the purchase of a new water heater for the main facility, located on Shaw Station Road.

A specially called Fiscal Court meeting was held on Tuesday morning to ‘okay’ the purchase. Magistrates voted unanimously to approve the $37,500 purchase.

According to Jailer Darwin Dennison, the facility’s current water heater has been malfunctioning. “It has been leaking water, and the leaked water has been mixing with the gas.” Dennison said.

An estimate was requested for repairs to the current heater, and Dennison was told that fixing to the 13-year-old equipment would cost between $18,000 and $20,000.

Dennison and the court decided that a better option would be to replace the aging equipment.

The new water heater will be installed next week.
