Wilkey gets “The Write Stuff” from award-winning author

It’s not every day that a real author visits your school. Wilkey Elementary welcomed award winner Nancy Allen for a day of interactive storytelling and story creation. The retired teacher has written dozens of books herself, and her programs showcase stories not just as entertainment, but possibly even a career opportunity.

Allen read from her own books, showing how story ideas come from the real-life, and actively involving her young audience. Together they talked about where ideas come from (anywhere) and how they can end up as a book.

Meeting an author can spur creativity and imagination. It can motivate children to read and write more. And when children realize that authors can be anyone, from anywhere, they are often inspired to develop their own story ideas.
