Arson is the suspected cause of a structure fire that took place in Leitchfield on the afternoon of Thursday, November 21.
At around 1 p.m. on Thursday, the Leitchfield Fire Department was called to Holly Church on Highway 259 North where a small building behind the church was in flames.
No one was injured, and there was minimal structural damage as a result of the fire; however, evidence gathered at the scene suggested that the fire had been purposely set, Leitchfield Fire Chief Jerry Schlosser said.
According to Schlosser, the recovered evidence indicated one or more person(s) likely broke into the building and set fire to a number of discarded wreaths from the nearby cemetery.
Schlosser said at the scene that the LFD had also received a description of the vehicle driven by the individual(s) responsible for the fire and would contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office with the details of the incident for further investigation.
The building is owned by Holly Church, and all items inside the building at the time of the fire were destroyed.
