On Tuesday, November 19, at 5:30 p.m., Dr. Gay Fulkerson, M.D., P.S.C., will host an informational meeting about an upcoming mission trip to Nicaragua.
The meeting will be open to anyone who is interested and will be held at Fulkerson’s medical practice, Fulkerson Family Medicine, located at 310 South Main Street in Leitchfield on Nov. 19.
Fulkerson said the non-denominational mission trip, which is sponsored by Baptist Medical - Dental Mission International (BMDMI), will take place from February 22-March 1.
Fulkerson said those who go on the mission trip will visit a village where “the whole section of the country has been hit by diseases that have attacked the area’s coffee plants,” which are the villagers’ livelihood.
While the trip is sponsored by the BMDMI, Fulkerson emphasizes that the trip will be non-denominational.
“Everyone is welcome for a team,” Fulkerson said. “We need all talents.”
Fulkerson will provide a slide show with information about Nicaragua, as well as answer general and specific questions about the mission trip at the meeting on Nov. 19, she said.
Interested individuals may register for a team may do so during the meeting.
Those who cannot attend the mission trip may also make a monetary donation, as well.
Fulkerson said anyone wishing to make a donation may submit to Fulkerson’s practice a check that is payable to BMDMI and designated to what portion of the mission trip the funds are to be used - i.e, food, construction, medicine, etc.
Fulkerson also said that, in the future, individuals who would like to aid in the effort may donate items such as summer clothes, shoes, used computers that still work, sheets, and towels to be shipped and given out to those in need.
