Third-generation tower, Mickey Johnson, of Brownsville, said he’s long had a goal to open a business in Grayson County, and last month, he brought his goal to fruition.
Johnson officially opened the second location of his towing, garage, salvage, and used car sales business, Mickey’s Towing and Garage, in Leitchfield on September 28 of this year.
Located at 122 Kim Lane, Mickey’s Towing and Garage specializes in a number of automotive services, including new and used tire sales, auto repair, salvage and sale of used auto parts, and used car sales, among others.
Aided by Justin Gordon, of Grayson County, Johnson said his main focus, however, is towing, which Mickey’s Towing and Garage provides 24 hours a day.
“The towing is kind of like my bread and butter,” said Johnson, who started his first towing business in 2005 to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
Johnson, who for nearly two years did contract work in Louisville, said his passion for towing comes from his desire to help people, which also led him to open a business in Leitchfield.
“In Louisville, you’re a little fish in a big pond,” he said. “I wanted to come closer to home.”
In Grayson County, Johnson, who also serves as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown, said he feels he will have more opportunities to become involved in a community than he did in Louisville.
“I felt like I could help the community and the people,” Johnson said. “Down here, you feel more involved.”
