The Grayson County chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), along with department store Belk, is raising funds for a local historical preservation project.

According to DAR spokeswoman Rose Booth, the group will be giving supporters the opportunity to attend a store-wide charity sale at the store, which is located in Towne Mall in Elizabethtown. Shoppers can donate money to the local organization while also getting great deals on the store’s goods.

The ‘Charity Sale’ will take place on Saturday, November 9, from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., and will feature twenty to seventy percent off of all items store-wide. In order to attend the sale, shoppers must have purchased a $5 coupon from the DAR.

Supporters are welcome to purchase as many of the coupons as they wish. Each one sold gives $5 to the organization and is redeemable at the sale for the same amount off of any purchase.

Anyone who would like to participate in the fundraising sale but cannot attend the event is welcome to purchase a coupon and ‘pre-order’ their sale-priced merchandise to be picked up at Belk after the event.

To purchase a ticket, contact Booth at (270) 589-4750 by Thursday, Nov. 7. A limited number of coupons are available, and if they are not sold out prior to the event, they will be available for purchase at the door.

Booth pointed out that the timing of the Charity Sale is perfect because shoppers can find some excellent deals on Christmas gifts while also supporting a local organization.

The DAR chapter is new to the community and meets at noon on the second Saturday of each month at the Jack Thomas House in Leitchfield.

Booth said, “Everybody is welcome who has a patriot in their family and is interested in DAR!”
