Craig Davis, a Republican from Leitchfield, recently announced his intention to run for the newly-created District 18 House seat in the Kentucky Legislature.

In a press release from Davis, he announced his intention to formally file for his candidacy in the upcoming election.

The primary election will be held in May, and the filing period for the 2014 election cycle will begin on January 28.

Davis is currently one of two candidates who has formally shared his intention to run for office with media across the two-county district.

Davis said he is a conservative and active Republican with strong family values.

Davis is a retired farmer and small businessman with several years of experience as a pro-Bono Federal and State Lobbyist, he said.

Davis is married to Sandra Davis and has four teenage children, Courtney, Karrie, Cierra, and Raley; and one adult son, Shane.

“I am not a politician, only a concerned citizen,” said Davis, a newcomer to politics. “I believe the Kentucky Legislature belongs to the people in our great state. Its members should reflect the thinking of the people in the areas represented. Members should report to those who elect them and should strive to keep in touch. I am and will be that kind of elected official.”

Davis said his priorities for office will include the following:

Strengthening the economy and providing more and better jobs.

Helping small towns, communities and counties, as well as local police, fire and  rescue services.

Improving education and helping teachers receive better salaries for their work.

Providing better programs and services for senior citizens.

Creating “excellent and balanced growth” in agriculture, small business and industrial areas.

Exploring new avenues for lowering taxes.

“My family and I look forward to meeting and talking with as many people as possible across Grayson and Hardin counties in the next few months,” Davis said.
