The Lady Cougars had a great season in the volleyball court but ultimately ended empty handed.

After going the regular season 19-6, Grayson failed to get anything going during their post-season run.

They started strong, dominating their rivals Edmonson County (25-10, 25-20, 25-15) in the 12th District semifinals, but that would be their last win of the year.

Grayson lost the 12th district final (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16) to Trinity, a team they had beaten in straight sets two weeks before the playoff meeting, which set them up with a tough draw versus Owensboro Catholic in the opening round of the regional tournament.

On Tuesday, Grayson tried their best to upset the Lady Aces but failed to put up more than 15 points in a set, losing (25-13, 25-15, 25-12). In every set, the Lady Cougars set themselves up with a massive deficit that easily hampered any scoring runs they amounted in the game.

Despite the poor showing in regionals, the year can be considered a huge success by just making the tournament in the first place. This was the first time the team made the regional tournament since 2011, and the team only featured four seniors, giving Grayson a solid chance of repeating their performance next season.

Boys Soccer

Grayson County Boys Soccer team had a solid showing in the regional tournament this week to end their record-breaking season.

They had the longest winning streak in the program's history winning six games in a row in route to their first winning season since 2014, and punctuated the year Tuesday with the school's first regional tournament win beating Muhlenberg County 2-0 in the quarterfinal.

Matthew Haycraft led the way to the historic win, getting a goal and an assist in the quarterfinal. He opened the scoring in the eighth minute and, seconds before halftime, put a perfect free kick for Chase Minton to head home.

In the 3rd region semifinal, Grayson's luck ran out. They couldn't find the goals and couldn't find a way to stop from losing 10-0 to Daviess County. They struggled mightily in the first half, allowing nine scores before surviving the rest of way.

The Cougars finished with the year with an 11-8 record.

Girls Soccer

The Lady Cougars lost big in their district final last week, and things didn't get better at the regional.

After letting six goals to Meade County last week, Grayson lost 10-0 to Owensboro Catholic Monday.

The loss marked the second straight season the Lady Cougars got eliminated in this round, ending their year with a 9-12 record.
