The Clarkson City Commissioners, (Left to right) Ed Schott, Mayor Bonnie Henderson, Bob Vincent, Scotty Gore and Joyce Bell prepare for the Tree Lighting Ceremony.

At the scheduled Nov. 13 Clarkson Commission meeting, the Commissioners discussed Clarkson's Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Clarkson Community Center.

The City bought 200 packages of 100 lights, a total of 20,000 lights, for the 15 trees that will be decorated for Christmas. According to Mayor Bonnie Henderson, when all of the new lights have been used, old lights from last year will be reused to finish decorating.

Festivities for the Clarkson tree lighting will include: Santa Claus, a live nativity, and Christmas Caroling.

Santa Claus will be riding a fire truck escorted by Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith, The Chatterbox Salon will put on the live nativity scene and Angie Abner will bring her choir students from Clarkson Elementary School to sing.

In other business:

Larry Cann gave an update on the Sewer Rehab Project. He said, as of last week, Rural Development is preparing to get ready to advertise for bids. Cann said the project should be ready to build by next Spring.Additionally, Mayor Henderson said because of delays, it will be mid to late January before the firehouse can be roofed. The Commissioners also voted and approved Strader's Electric to do the electrical work on the sanitation building. Henderson said three different companies were verbally told what the lighting needs were for the sanitation building without specs. The City wants to use LED lighting for the front of the building, the back of the building, where the garbage truck is, and in the bay area.

David Strader had the lowest bid for the job at $5,650, which was over $1,000 cheaper than the other two bids.

Mayor Henderson is hoping the Detention Center can do the insulation and the metal for the building after the electrical is completed.
