The offices of the Grayson County News-Gazette were severely damaged in a fire on Friday night, Nov. 24.

After 9 p.m. on Friday, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the offices at 52 Public Sq. in Leitchfield.

Flames ravaged the rear of the building, and the remainder of the ground floor of the building sustained severe smoke damages, leaving nearly everything inside unsalvageable.

Additionally, some smoke from the fire appeared to have seeped into neighboring businesses, Simply Splendid and Goff & Goff Attorneys, but no major damages were reported to these businesses.

No injuries were reported, and no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. The LFD cleared the scene shortly after midnight.

Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said the blaze originated in the rear portion of the office in the kitchen area and was likely electrical in nature.

The LFD intended to report the blaze to the State Fire Marshal's Office, as is customary in incidents involving businesses, according to Duvall.

The Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene.

The staff of the Grayson County News-Gazette would like to thank all of the police and fire department personnel for their assistance, as well as the community for the support we have been given.

As a note to our readers, the extent of the damages will likely prevent us from being able to work from this location for the forseeable future, so we ask for your patience in the coming weeks and months.

We do not expect this will prevent us from continuing to publish the paper on our normal schedule.
