A Leitchfield man was arrested and charged with sexually abusing a juvenile relative earlier this week.

42-year-old Jeremiah "Jeremy" D. Crawford has been accused of engaging in "deviate sexual intercourse" with a female relative at a residence in Leitchfield on Monday night, the evening of his 42nd birthday, according to an arrest citation filed by Leitchfield Police Department Detective Kevin Smith.

The next day at 12:30 p.m., Smith arrested Crawford and charged him with two counts of incest and one count of rape in the second degree (no force). He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center, where he remains on a $25,000 cash bond.

A video arraignment was held for Crawford in Grayson District Court on Thursday morning, and he entered a plea of not guilty to the charges brought against him. He will next appear in Grayson District Court next Thursday at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.

According to Kentucky Revised Statutes, rape in the second degree is a Class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years in prison; and incest, in a case in which the victim is under 18 years of age but not younger than 12 years of age, is a Class B felony, punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Per KRS, a person may be found guilty of rape in the second degree when, being 18 years old or more, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than 14 years old or who is mentally incapacitated or incapable of consent due to an intellectual disability.

A person may be found guilty of incest when he or she has sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with either a whole- or half-blood relative.
